Netiquette: Good Manners in Networking

Arrive on time.

Stand tall, look at people, shake hands, smile.

Locate the food table. Position yourself to meet people

Hold your drink in your left hand; shake with your right

Re-introduce yourself to people you know first.

Meet as many people as possible, spend no more than 10 minutes each

Exchange business cards only after establishing a rapport.

Do what you say you will, follow up.

Don’t smoke, chew gum or drink too much.

Approach groups of three or more people.

Introduce younger to older, less authority to more authority.

Don’t flirt.

Use humor. Avoid sarcasm, don’t tell off color stories.

Listen. Make eye contact and nod. Don’t eye dart.

Don’t rush the buffet table.

Leave when you say you’re going to leave.
