We Choose Canada Stories

Todd’s Story – Canadian

My ancestors came to the Bay of Fundy area in the late 19th century to avoid the potato famine and succeeded in living in a "new world" despite the harsh existence that greeted them. I am proud that I stand here today as a result of their toil.

I hope more recent immigrants can feel the same pride. They all have reasons for wishing a fresh start away from their homeland and should be thankful to Canada for providing a better way of life. I hope that as new arrivals take root they can be - first and foremost- Canadian.

All right I'm going to stop here before this turns into a beer commercial!

Edward’s story – Canadian

One of my hobbies is to travel. So far I have visited over 50 countries and have friends in many of them. I enjoy discovering what the country is like to live in.

While I enjoy the culture of these countries I discover what makes Canada such a great place to live. We are not one ethnic, religious or political group. We each have our own thoughts, ideas and beliefs that are respected by others. We can express ourselves without government interference.

The one true symbol that represents this is our flag. It is beautiful in it's simplicity as there is only 'ONE' maple leaf that stands for all. In Canada everything that is different is for one, and one is different for all. I have not found in other countries!

Matt’s story – Canadian

I take pride in living and working in Canada because it is a country like no other. The opportunities are endless. We have a health care system that is second to none, we have a very large multi-cultural society and we are known for being peacemakers. It is very heartwarming to get a warm welcome from people of other countries when you tell them that you are Canadian. The great sense of pride brings a smile to my face. I love Canada and all that it has to offer.

Tamara’s story - Canadian

I have lived in Canada all my life. I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and in my early 20's relocated to Ontario to be a flight attendant. Having the opportunity to see many different parts of the world, it gave me a real sense of satisfaction and pride to be Canadian.

In Canada we have so many things to be grateful. The beauty of the land, the beauty of Canadian people, who I find are more welcoming then any in the world. We have many privileges here in Canada that many do not, for example healthcare. We take for granted the simplicity of just being able to call and see a doctor that same day.

We are also truly blessed to have four beautiful seasons here in Canada. I am very proud to say I am a Canadian and I am also proud my children will be able to say the same. There is no other country around with the freedom and choices Canada has to offer.

Chris’ story

I have lived in the UK, yet, I have determined that I really like living here because there are such nice people around. I also like the country, with its unique history and culture. And the climate in Vancouver is spectacular.
